The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is devastated by the tragic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday this week. The searing images of pain and devastation are indescribable, and our community is in great distress. Until today, over 11,000 have died, and thousands of buildings have collapsed, leaving nothing but death and destruction in their wake.
As we write, the death toll continues to rise and rescue teams continue their heroic efforts on the ground in search for survivors. Our deepest and heartfelt prayers are with all our brothers and sisters in the region. May Allah have mercy on all who have been affected by this tragedy and may those who are in need be granted immediate relief. As countries and organizations support the relief work underway, we hope the U.S. will continue to play its part in backing the international effort. We also urge everyone in our community to pledge some support to a trusted organization aiding in the relief efforts.
Today, ISNA President, Safaa Zarzour, attended a call with the Ambassador of Turkey, along with representatives of more than 40 organizations, to discuss ways Muslim Americans can help with the relief effort. ISNA calls on our community and Masajid to observe Friday as a day of prayer and support for the victims in Turkey and Syria.
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Whoever relieves a believer from one of the hardships of this
worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection”
(Sahih Muslim). Please donate generously and keep the global Muslim ummah in your prayers
